In May 2022, Mrs. Ourda Despoina presented to students of the department the objectives of the program and highlighted its importance, as well as adopting a school-based holistic approach to promote leisure-time physical activity by including a broad and diverse group of teachers and relevant stakeholders (i.e., physical education teachers, head teachers, school psychologists, school sociologists, other school support staff, and educational authorities).


Dr. Barkoukis presented the aims of Hepa project in Greece at the 30th International Conference on Physical Education and Sport. The conference was held on 20-22 May 2022 in Komotini and the presentation was attended by sports psychologists and physical education teachers. The project provides evidence and practical examples for teachers and relevant stakeholders to incorporate courses regarding health-enhancing physical activity into their educational curricula.

Dr Barkoukis successfully presented the Erasmus+ HEPA program at the 16th Conference on Sport Psychology held in Trikala on May 2023


Dr Despoina Ourda successfully presented the paper entitled "A Whole-School Approach in Promoting Health-Enhancing Physical Activity" of the Erasmus+ HEPA program at FEPSAC 2022 conference held on July 11-16. 


Dr Barkoukis presented the HEPA project to stakeholders and academics. The features of the HEPA material was presented and the rationale for a whole school approach for the promotion of physical activity was discussed. Stakeholders showed interest in the project deliverables answer committed in further disseminating the concept of a whole school approach for the promotion of physical activity.


At the CAWR conference 2023, the Erasmus+ HEPA program was presented with great success. Another fantastic event on Whole-School Approaches to Health-enhancing Physical Activity. Wonderful overview of a user-friendly resource that can be utilized in many different spaces.


The CMU presented the HEPA project at the CAWR conference. A fruitful discussion was produced about the whole school approach for the promotion of physical activity as a result of the presentation.


Frederick University hosted the fifth and last partners meeting of the HEPA Project - A whole school approach promoting Health Enhancing Physical Activity.   During the productive two-day gathering in Limassol, project partners discussed progress and challenges in promoting physical activity among children and adolescents. The meeting was followed by a conference opened by the President of the Cyprus Sports Organisation, Andreas Michaelides.

Finnish researchers share the HEPA results from simple interventions in schools. Adding just 65 minutes additional activity per week improved strength and endurance of children.

Esteemed experts explored prevention and treatment strategies, highlighting the pressing need for awareness, research, and action. The event organized by European Liver Patients’ Association - ELPA ignited a call to combat this urgent public health concern.  During the Summit that took place in the European Parliament, EuropeActive showcased the HEPA Project, which focused on instilling healthy habits through proactive education and promoting physical activity. These initiatives offer resources, training, and a holistic approach to fight the global epidemic of physical inactivity.


At the Unesco conference, the HEPA Project, was presented by Prof. Brighi. The participants endorsed the project and the project activities.

Project HEPA was presented at the The International Ferenza Conference, “Building Inclusive Education through School Staff and Third Sector Training: strategies and Methodologies for Promoting Student Well-being and Combating Discrimination,” by Prof Brighi.


The HEPA Project - Closing Event is a significant gathering set for June 28th, dedicated to celebrating the successful completion of the HEPA Project and the innovative methods of health education it has championed. This event is designed to engage and inspire teachers from diverse disciplines, including physical education teachers, and will be conducted through distance lecture, making it accessible to a wide audience.

This title reflects the key elements of the event, including the introduction, project guidelines, module presentation, training overview, and results overview, all presented by Alessandro Failo.


HEPA project partners gathered in Finland to provide an update on the progress, but also to finalize the deliverables and coordinate their implementation. Many thanks to our partners at the University of Jyväskylä for hosting the fruitful meeting!


Dr Papakosta presented the project deliverables at the HEPA conference that was held in Limassol. The conference was attended by representatives of Cyprus sport authorities, pre-service and in-service teachers and stimulated discussion about the implementation of the HEPA principles into the Cypriot educational reality.


Prof Barkoukis presented the HEPA project to educators in the Regional Authority of PIeria. A fruitful discussion followed and teachers exchanged ideas about possible ways to implement the HEPA practices in Greek schools.
