The primary business of Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMU) is the provision of Higher Education through full-time and part-time study. CMU is a diverse, vibrant community of £10,000 undergraduate students, 2,000 postgraduate students, 40,000 alumni and over 1,000 staff members from all across the world. With two campuses in Cardiff, the University offers its students a specialised and dynamic place to learn, grow and make lasting connections. The University engages in applied research that is at the interface of new knowledge creation and its application. Our research has direct application in business, industry, the professions and the community at large. Our leading research groups have a prominent international reputation and the institution is committed to supporting their future development and to supporting new and emerging areas of research across all discipline areas. Research undertaken by the University staff contributes to academic debate and informs public policy. The University’s research has direct application in the areas of sport, health sciences, education, technology, management, art and design. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, 80% of the universities research was rated as ‘World Leading or Internationally Excellent’, making CMU the highest ranking post-1992 sector University in the UK for quality research. Activities relating to research, training and consultancy are provided on a broad base and cover local, national and international provision. This includes carrying out commissioned research, funded projects, social and community projects and evaluation studies World renowned organisations such as the Met Office, the NHS, national charities, 3M PLC, the Food Standards Agency, Welsh Assembly Government and FIFA have all featured amongst the University’s portfolio of applied research and knowledge transfer partners.
CMU prides itself on building close relationships between students and staff, and on serving the wider community through promoting its economic, cultural and social well-being. In terms of the activities and experience relevant to this project, CMU has significant experience in both managing and cooperating in European Projects, and in the applied promotion of physical activity and mental health and wellbeing activities.
